Dr. Glenn Maron discusses how dental professionals navigate the topic of ethics in dentistry. This course will explore several areas of ethics and professionalism, including: education and training regarding professional boundaries; unprofessional conduct relating to the commission of acts of sexual intimacy, abuse, misconduct, or exploitation within the practice of dentistry; legislative updates and  changes to the laws relating to the practice of dentistry rules, policies, and advisory opinions and rulings issued by the board; proper billing practices; professional liability; and risk management.

Infection control in dentistry is a growing concern. The dental environment presents a relative risk of both acquisition and transmission of an infectious disease to the patient.  Additional concerns arise from cross-contamination, contaminated water lines, antibiotic resistant bacteria and complex infections.  Appropriate antibiotics stewardship is the hallmark for appropriate care for patients. Join us for a discussion of these topics and how to protect your patients appropriately in your practice. 

This course satisfies the Georgia Board of Dentistry requirements for infection control training for dentists and hygienists.

Fr6085 - Medical Update for Dentistry: From Bisphosphonates to Blood Thinners

Practitioners are caring for an aging population that often present with complex medical histories. The rules for appropriate patient management are constantly changing. BRONJ (bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw) is now MRONJ (medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw). Total joint replacement patients no longer need premedication. Patients on Coumadin and other blood thinners do not always need to stop medications prior to dental treatment. This course will discuss current recommendations for appropriate management of patients with these and other various medical issues.

The ADA, State and Federal Government, as well as lay media, are concerned and highlighting the excessive use of narcotics and other addictive medications in dentistry. Dr. Maron will lead a discussion on current recommendations in pain management for the dental patient. We will discuss oral sedation, the current future requirements for state anesthesia certification and post-op pain control. From premedication to local anesthesia, staying abreast of the latest protocols is critical for ideal pain control.
