A Message from Society President David Anderson

The Promise of a New Year

This time of year gives all of us the chance to look back and remember all of the celebrations,
weddings, births, gatherings and occasions of the outgoing year. We look forward to the promise of the new year and the ability to begin again. I am convinced that we are a most blessed nation and people with a great 2023 ahead of us.

The Hinman year rolls on as we are entering the busy time for our Society. The March Meeting is less than three months out and is looking to be a very successful event. As you all know, the
excess revenue goes back to the future of our profession through scholarships and funding dental education functions.

One of our funding endeavors was recently held at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Dentistry. More than one hundred students
from the USA and Canada exemplified the best of the future of our profession as they presented their ideas at the 27th Hinman Dental Research
Symposium in Memphis. It was a great experience to learn from these dental students and to be able to share with them the importance of continuing their
education after graduation. Obviously, I let them know that the Hinman Dental Meeting every March would be an ideal way for them to do that. The
students were extremely grateful for the financial support from our Society. Thanks to Dr. Mustafa Dubbous and his staff for a great weekend at the
Peabody and for hosting in true Hinman style.

On November 14, over 260 members gathered at the JW Marriott as Dr. Lee Ann Brady shared from her wealth of knowledge. She gave us too many to count “put it
to work tomorrow” tips with her “Anterior Esthetic Techniques and Materials” lecture. She will be back with us in March, leading the instruction of the
three-day course, “Essentials 1,” from the Pankey Institute. Dr. Brady was thrilled and proud to become an Honorary Member and I cannot think of anyone
more deserving. We also recognized our 30, 40 and 50 year members at this meeting. It was great to acknowledge their service to organized
dentistry and the legacy that they are creating for our Society.

Hinman members will have one more opportunity to meet their requirement as our next Membership Meeting is coming up at the Georgia Aquarium on
January 19 with Dr. Tieraona Low Dog. Bring your staff and be prepared to learn how to live a healthier and more complete life.

These Membership Meetings are subsidized by our Trustees, so thanks to them for making this one of the many fabulous benefits of being in the
Society. Also, thank you to Angela Ojibway and the Hospitality Committee for your hosting talents. And to Program Chair, Kristina Dawson, I couldn’t do it
without you and I appreciate your tremendous job and expert help! As always, I thank our Hinman staff for the day-in, day-out work that you all do.

One of our very own, Dr. Nancy Young, was named Interim Dean at the Dental College of Georgia. Take a moment to congratulate Nancy the next time you
see her. I am confident that she will do a terrific job. The Society will be proud to continue to provide funds to the school. Since 2005, we have given $3.4
million to DCG. This has been given in the form of scholarships to dental and dental hygiene students, to funding several lecture series and for the endowment

of the Chair Restorative Dentistry.

Registration is now open for Hinman 2023, “Expand Your Horizons, Explore Your Future.” Hinman members and their spouses are already registered, another

nice perk of membership. So go ahead and get your staff signed up for what is going to be a fabulous meeting. Also, remember to save some big purchases for the show floor. Dr. Roy McDonald and his Program Chairs have put together an innovative and exciting schedule of courses and events. Committee meetings

will start in the next few weeks. If you do not have a committee assignment yet, contact the Hinman office. Fulfilling your eight hours of service will get you one

free night (yet another perk) at the Annual Meeting at The Grand Floridian Resort and Spa at Walt Disney World. The link for the hotel reservations has been sent

to all the members. There will be much more Disney information in the next Preview/Review.

Let’s all plan on helping Roy have a highly successful meeting in March.  I wish you all a Happy New Year!

- David
