A Message from Society President Jonathan Dubin
Another Successful Year for Hinman
Hinman 2016 was a beautiful success and that is not surprising with General Chairman, Jim Roos, his Program Chairmen, Brad Greenway and Kate Robinson, and all of our members who ‘work’ the meeting. Each year, it never ceases to amaze me how well organized and executed our meeting is. That is a reflection of you, the members, and our amazing staff. Our Executive Director, Sylvia Ratchford, is celebrating 20 years with us and leads what is unequivocally, the finest, most dedicated, and nicest staff of any dental meeting in the world. I can’t tell you how good it feels to have speakers and attendees come up to me during the meeting or write to me after the meeting about how well the meeting is run or how much they enjoy the ‘Hinman’ experience. I suppose it is like a parent being complimented on how well your children have turned out. The Hinman experience starts with hospitality and continues with the finest continuing education and social events. The icing on the cake is the scholarships that we are able to gift with any profits at the meeting.
Speaking of which, Laura Steele’s Hinman Shop raised additional dollars for scholarships while outfitting many attendees with stylish Hinman shirts and hats (and don’t forget the Hinman Yeti cups!). This year’s G.O.L.D. program 2.0 was a success as well as the other innovations that Dr. Roos and his team have brought to Hinman. From the mini-residencies in pediatric oral care, geriatrics, and cone beam technology to the lab tech day and the Total Health Pavilion, all seemed to be received well. The Keynote event was fantastic with Captain Phillips entertaining the audience with his story and message. I hope you were able to join us for the keynote and the reception at the Delta Flight Museum.
I have taken great pride in serving as your president this year. I’d like to once again thank Clayton Davis as my program chair; He finished our three membership meetings off with a new speaker, Mr. Brian Dodge, at the Fox Theatre in January. He delivered a wonderful, high-energy lecture that everyone enjoyed. Amy Kuhmichel and Heather Bussey were the hospitality chairs for our membership meetings and did an exemplary job. Jane Puskas led an illuminating task force on our future and Pat Yancey guided our nominating committee. I can’t say enough about all of the Hinman staff again. Nothing happens without their work and they do it better than anyone else.
I invite you to join me in celebrating another great Hinman year at our annual meeting in Hilton Head Island at the newly renovated Sonesta Resort. Our chair, Dr. Evis Babo, promises to put together a great weekend with fun events and fabulous weather at the beach. Bring the family June 3-5, or longer.
Thank you for your Hinman membership.
