The Hinman Dental Society, a non-profit organization, is comprised of more than 800 member dentists primarily located in metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 1911 by Thomas P. Hinman, the Society is dedicated to the advancement of its membership through outstanding educational and professional development opportunities, as well as promoting the high practice standards of the field of dentistry through public advocacy and outreach.

A Message from Society President Troy Schulman
Talk about "Something Extra"...
Congratulations to Dr. Sedgie Newsom and his Program Chairs, Jonathan Dubin and Patrick French, for the “Best Hinman Ever” this March. The 111th
Thomas P. Hinman Dental Meeting was spectacular! Sedgie stepped up on the tee box and hit a hole-in-one. Hinman 2024 offered three days of the best continuing education in the country to attendees, which was largely due to Sedgie’s attention to detail - from the entertainment at the Keynote Session to the inaugural focus on systemic health in dentistry.
The theme of this year’s Meeting was “The Gateway to Systemic Health, It Starts with a Smile” and there were fascinating and groundbreaking courses focused on this theme beginning the very first day. The unique thing about our Meeting is the fact that all of our members volunteer their time and expertise and bring their best Southern Hospitality to the event. Pat yourselves on the back one thousand times – Dr. Hinman would be very proud.
Our last Membership Meeting was held in January at the Georgia Aquarium with Ms. Laci Phillips Newland who wowed us with her knowledge on communication and leadership. She delivered a
wealth of information to our dental teams while entertaining us at the same time. A big thank you to my Society Program Chair, Victor van Greuningen, for all his efforts to make our Membership Meetings
interesting. Also, I would like to thank our Hospitality Chairs, Drs. Brett and Lyndsay Langston, for their excellent work. Our Society would not be this strong without the wonderful and talented Hinman Staff,
including our Executive Director, Lynn Leidel and her dedicated staff; without each one of them, none of what we do would be possible. Our Member Services Manager, Jackie Sarvis, has been my right hand
this year. She is responsible for keeping me on schedule and therefore our Society moving. Thank you, Jackie, for keeping me grounded, having patience and being the calm in any and every storm.
There was a lot of Lagniappe (“something extra”– y’all have heard that before, right?!!) around the 111th Thomas P. Hinman Dental Meeting and our Hinman Dental Society this year and there is still more to come!
Our Annual Meeting is scheduled for May 31- June 2 on the beautiful island of Hilton Head at the Sonesta Resort. Come and get your Lagniappe - one free hotel night! This is for all Society members who volunteered
at this year’s March Meeting. This is possible due to the generosity of the Hinman Board of Trustees. Be sure to thank Trustee Chair, Brad Greenway, for his leadership and support of our Society. Our Annual Meeting
Program Chair, Matt Mazzawi, is planning a parade of events for the weekend and it will be a bigger celebration than Mardi Gras! I can’t wait to see you there! Book your hotel rooms by May 9 and register online by May 15.

As my Presidency comes to a close, I would like to thank all of you for the privilege of serving this fine organization. Being a member has added depth and meaning to my practice through continuing education courses,
networking, conversing with top-tier clinicians and most importantly, the pleasure of meeting you from time to time at our gatherings. I don’t believe you can find these benefits on such a high level anywhere else. It has
truly been an honor and I look forward to celebrating all these successes with you in Hilton Head.
