Seventy percent of the population of the United States chooses complementary
alternative medicine (CAM) techniques when faced with needing a health care
solution. The modern dental office needs a working understanding of CAM
techniques available that overlap with the scope of our practice in order to be
supportive of patients since this material has not been traditionally included in
dental school curriculum. This course explores the research (evidenced based
medicine) related to CAM for effective solutions for common dental patient
concerns including: dental treatment anxiety and fear, pain management, honoring
the patient’s desire to minimize chemicals and for the treatment of head injuries.
The attendee will be shown which new solutions for old problems are effective.
The course will enable the dentist to hold a respectful space for honoring the
treatment wishes of a patient who wants to try CAM for their care.
