These seemingly simple procedures can be fraught with hazards such as post-op sensitivity, fracture and finishing complications. How can practitioners best use clinical time and affect a successful outcome? The importance of bulk fill composite restorations and fewer steps required will be highlighted. Concerns as to adhesion, matrix systems, finishing, polishing and restoration longevity must all be addressed as well, to ensure optimal success.

One of the workhorses of our everyday clinical practice is placement of direct composite restorations. These procedures should be enjoyable, successful and give us a sense of pride upon completion. But this is dependent on our technique and the proper choice of equipment and dental materials. With the advent of nano-composites, universal adhesives, and sectional matrices, our task has become very predictable. Not only are these restorations beautiful, but extremely durable. This course will outline the newest composite systems, anterior and posterior matrix kits, and highlight the best finishing and polishing procedures.
