Fee: $75
DR. LINDA C. NIESSEN

Prevention Isn’t Just for Kids
Preventing dental diseases now requires a lifetime of care. Adults are living longer, and retaining more of their
natural dentition. This program will identify risk factors for caries, periodontal diseases and oral cancer in older
adults. Strategies for preventing these diseases will be emphasized.
MS. MARY GOVONI
10:00 a.m. – 10:50 a.m.
Ergonomics
Many hygienists deal with work related tension, fatigue, aches and pain. This program will focus on prevention of
musculoskeletal disorders for the dental team, through proper posture and equipment selection.
MS. LISA F. HARPER-MALLONEE
11:00 a.m. – 11:50 a.m.
What DO Diet and Nutrition have to do with DENTISTRY?
All hygienists are in a unique position to provide our patients with the highest degree of preventive healthcare. The
dental visit isn’t “just about the mouth” – it’s about the whole patient! Apply basic principles of cariology with ongoing
research on diet and nutrition related to oral health to confidently provide comprehensive care for our patients.
Lunch is on your own from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.
MS. COLLEEN RUTLEDGE
1:30 p.m. – 2:20 p.m.
New Trends in Periodontal Therapy
This presentation touches on the role of ultrasonics in periodontal therapy and discusses practical application
technique tips for commonly used antimicrobials. Treatment planning for non-surgical cases will be discussed.
Learn how easy it is to incorporate these procedures into daily practice!
DR. OLYA ZAHREBELNY
2:30 p.m. – 3:20 p.m.
Accurate Coding and Documentation for Maximum Hygiene Reimbursement
Code selection is critical for maximum reimbursement. Even more important, is to know when to bill a particular
hygiene visit to the patient’s medical plan rather than a dental plan. Coding using both medical and dental codes
will be discussed and examples presented, together with appropriate “Remarks” on dental claim forms and
“Narratives” for medical claims.
DR. MARIA E. RYAN
3:30 p.m. – 4:20 p.m.
Diabetes and Periodontal Disease
Hygienists are often the primary contact with the diabetic patient. Learn the latest about the evidence relating
periodontal disease to diabetes mellitus. Treatment strategies that can positively impact the periodontal condition
in patients with diabetes and potentially improve on overall health will be discussed.
